Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels

Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels Mark, Matthew, Luke: A Survey of the Synoptic Gospels.
We will study the different “portrayals” of Jesus in the first three Gospels. Although the study will proceed in the sequence of their historical formation, the primary interest is on their Christological emphases. For Mark, Jesus is the “Hidden Messiah and the Eschatological Judge.” For Matthew, Jesus is “A Teacher Greater Than Moses.” Finally, for Luke, Jesus is “A Savior of All Nations.” The major approach will be spiritual-theological. Who is Jesus Christ in these Gospels? Why the different portrayals? What distinguishes them? What is common to them? To understand these texts in our contemporary situation, historical, literary, and sociological methods are introduced, albeit in a minimal way. Jesus question in Mark will guide our study: "Who do you say that I am?"
